stop "forcing" yourself to do something
what you can do instead ft. my weird methods
I think I came up with the most roundabout, creative, unhinged way to get my life together.
But before I share what it is, let me tell you about an absolute legend:
Sumie Inagaki.

You’ve probably heard of David Goggins…
But have you heard of Sumie?
She’s the Japanese ultramarathon runner who ran alongside David Goggins,
The guy who is well known for being a grinder lol…like work hard vibes.
But Sumie had a totally different mindset…
"What I do is a fun run. I train as if I were having a picnic."
And I think this mindset works way better for me than trying to force myself to do something.
My weird method to get my life together
I’m motivated by my values:
Fun
Challenge
Curiosity
So when I have to do something that’s hard for me
(Like meal prepping),
I realized I’ll only do it if it’s related to one of those values.
Example: improving my eating habits
Fun: hire myself as a personal chef and create a cute menu on Canva
Challenge: tackle the challenge of hitting my macros (marathon training) while making something delicious. I love creating stuff so this made it feel less intimidating
Curiosity: can I actually make private chef level food? I’m excited to find out 👀

Some other values I have:
Helping people
Learning and growth
Example 2: cleaning my room
Helping people: I’m donating some of the stuff I have and there was a strict deadline to get the donations in
Learning and growth: I listened to a course I purchased while cleaning. It felt so energizing!!

desk is still a mess but the rest of my room is good
By living in more alignment with my values,
I found myself running toward the task I dreaded…instead of running away.
But what if you can’t?
Now I have to do a disclaimer,
Because I know sometimes you have no choice -
Maybe you’re stuck in a job you hate, but you still need to pay the bills.
Part of the reason I used to dislike working was because I felt like I had no autonomy.
Like nothing I did mattered.
So figure out the value you’re missing there,
And create it elsewhere in your life.
Example: your job makes you feel stifled and trapped.
You value independence and freedom.
What’s a way you can show up for your values in other areas of your life?
(A side project, weekend trip, new hobby, etc.?)
Your homework
Think of 1 thing you’ve been putting off for a while
Consider your top values related to that thing
Brainstorm a fun, creative way to live more in alignment with your values to get that thing done
