the ADHD cycle of inconsistency
and people who don't understand my content
“My ADHD could never let me stay consistent.”
These are comments I get on my videos.
What they don’t see is how my motivation comes in cycles…
One day I’ll get super inspired and do an entire week’s worth of work,
The next day I’ll lay in bed all day,
Waiting til 2:30pm to eat breakfast 😩
So if my motivation comes and goes like this, how do I stay consistent?

One of the best compliments I got
A few months ago, my partner and I were on the bus.
He randomly turned to me and said,
“Jen, I like that you forgive easily.”
I realized that forgiveness also applies to myself…
If I “waste” a day procrastinating,
I’m still excited for the next one,
Knowing it gives me another chance to improve.
That’s why it feels like a cycle (but not a bad one):
I make an exciting plan
I lose motivation
I procrastinate
I do half that plan (my minimum viable action)
I feel bad, but want to improve
I make a new plan
I get excited
I lose motivation
I procrastinate
As long as I keep trying (and half-assing my plans), I stay consistent.
Sometimes, just getting up to eat breakfast is my win for the day.
This visualization is a good reminder:
I created systems around my interests

People see my complicated data dashboards and wonder why I have time for them.
But they don’t realize I love pretty colours, emojis, and graphs.
So of course I’m motivated to stay consistent…because it’s rewarding.
I created systems that set myself up for success, which makes it easier to stay consistent.
I write weekly emails (1.5 year streak!!) because I love writing and sharing my ideas to help you improve your life
I journal every night because it’s soooo fun to look back on my entries and laugh at my funny jokes
I can only clean my room when I film myself doing it on timelapse…because it’s satisfying to watch the video and keeps me from being distracted on my phone
There’s a whole psychology thing behind it 😅
I call it my CARR system (cue, action, reward, reflection).
Let me know if I should write a more in-depth email about it!
So if you’re struggling to stay consistent…
Remember these 2 things:
Forgive yourself for not being “perfect”
Create systems around your interests
How was today's email? |
Til next Monday,
